The Chip

All products that utilize Thermal Gradient's unique technology center around the PCR amplification chip. Key attributes of the devices designed so far are:

  • Internal volume: 4ul, 30ul, 40ul, 400ul, 1000ul
  • Amplification cycles: 30-50
  • Materials: Plastic and Silicon
  • Size: 5mmx12mm (smallest) to 56mmx72mm (largest)
  • Two and Three Temperature PCR
  • Disposable and Reuseable
  • "Real Time" (quantitative) PCR and End-Point
  • Any ratio of denaturing to annealing to extension time

The above illustrates the range of characteristics that can be designed into Thermal Gradient devices. This allows the optimum device to be built that best addresses the needs of the targeted application. Additional features have also been designed in our devices such as extra long initial denaturation channels.

Packaging

The packaging of the device highly by the application. Thermal Gradient has designed devices for single use, "Lab-On-A-Chip" applications are especially well served because the Thermal Gradient technology is flow-through. This allows for a more straight forward integration with the other functions. Integral packaging can utilize features that support automatic or manual pipetting and optical reading. Thermal Gradient packaging designs have included features such as:

  • Internal fluid routing
  • Optical Windows
  • Integral pipette tips
  • Filter membranes
  • Waste reservoirs
